Holiday Schedule & Info

Major Holidays That Affect Trash and Sweeping Schedules

There are only six holidays during the year that can affect weekly trash collection and street sweeping schedules. On these days, trash and sweeping services will be delayed by one day, each day, for the rest of the week.

  1. New Year's Day (January 1st)
  2. Memorial Day (Last Monday in May)
  3. Independence Day (July 4th)
  4. Labor Day (First Monday in September)
  5. Thanksgiving Day (Fourth Thursday in November)
  6. Christmas Day (December 25th)

Waste and Recycling Holiday Schedule - Residential and Commercial Services

Trash Collection

If the holiday falls during the work week, collection for the remainder of the week will be postponed by one day. For example, if the 4th of July falls on a Monday, and your normal collection day is on Thursday, your pickup for that week will be on Friday.

Holiday Schedule Delayed Week

If the holiday falls on a Saturday or Sunday, trash will be collected on your normal collection day with no delays to your pickup.

Holiday Schedule No Delay

Street Sweeping and Ticketing

The street sweeping schedule follows the trash collection schedule.  If a holiday falls on a resident’s regular sweeping day during the work week, sweeping for the remainder of the week will be postponed by one day. For example, if the 4th of July falls on a Monday, and your normal sweeping day is on Thursday, your sweeping day for that week will be on Friday.

During any holiday week, if your regular sweeping day is on a Friday, your street will not be swept the next day on Saturday. Instead, it will be swept again when the regular sweeping schedule returns the following week.

Parking enforcement for street sweeping typically does not occur between December 24 and the Monday following the New Year's Holiday.

Overnight Parking

The City of La Habra typically suspends enforcement of the overnight parking ordinance during the holiday season.  Enforcement of the parking ordinance will not occur starting at 12:00am in the morning, the Friday before the Thanksgiving holiday through the Sunday following the New Year's Day holiday.  Enforcement resumes at 12:00am in the morning on the Monday following the New Year's Holiday. If New Year's Day happens to be on a Monday, then enforcement will resume the following day starting at 12:00am in the morning on Tuesday, January 2nd.

For overnight parking or other ticketing questions, please contact the La Habra Police Department at 562-383-4300.

La Habra to Offer Used Cooking Oil Collection through the 2022 to 2023 Holiday Season

The City of La Habra's annual Used Cooking Oil Collection Program will be available to La Habra residents through this year's holiday season.  The program will start on November 28, 2022 and will continue until after the New Year ending on January 13, 2023.  The program is held to offer residents a location to dispose of their holiday cooking oil.  The process of deep frying a holiday turkey generates a large amount of waste oil.  Fortunately, through this program, residents will have an easy option for disposal.  All cooking oil collected through this program is recycled into fuel or biodiesel.  Cooking oil should never be disposed of down the drain, although it can be placed in your curbside green organics cart. Any grease solids can harm the quality of the cooking oil that we collect, so any grease solids should be thrown into an organics collection cart.  This program is offered to La Habra residents by appointment only.  Please call for an appointment through the Public Works Department at (562) 383-4170.
