CAMPAIGN FILINGS
Campaign statements are filed by elected officials and candidates of local office including the Mayor and City Councilmembers. There are many different forms that elected officials and candidates may be required to submit depending on their campaign finance participation including:
- Candidate Intention (Form 501)
- Committee Information for campaigns receiving over $2,000 (Form 410)
- Committee Information for campaigns receiving less than $2,000 (Form 470)
- Semi-Annual, and Pre-Election Campaign Statements (Form 460)
- 24-Hour Independent Expenditure Report (Form 496)
- 24-Hour Contribution Report (Form 497)

CITY ELECTIONS
The residents of La Habra are represented by a five-member City Council who are elected on an at-large basis to four-year terms, with no term limits. This year's General Municipal Election will be held on Tuesday, November 5. Each year, the City Councilmembers choose one member to serve as Mayor and one member to serve as Mayor Pro Tem. The Mayor and the City Council are non-partisan.
Filing period for nomination started Monday, July 15, 2024, at 7:30 a.m., and closed on Friday, August 9, 2024, at 12:00 p.m.
REQUIREMENTS TO RUN FOR OFFICE
Eligibility
Individuals who are interested in running for City Council must be:
- A City of La Habra Resident
- A registered voter of the City of La Habra
- 18 years old on or before Election Day
- A United States citizen
Nomination Documents Deadline
This year, the filing period for nomination papers begins on Monday, July 15, and closes on Friday, August 9, at 12 p.m. (noon). Please contact the City Clerk’s Office at (562) 383-4030 during regular business hours of Monday through Thursday, from 7:30 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. to make an appointment to pull and file nomination papers.
Incumbent Members
If nomination papers for an incumbent City Council member are not filed by Friday, August 9, at 12 p.m. (noon), any person other than the person who was the incumbent shall have until Wednesday, August 14, at 6:00 p.m. to file nomination documents for the elective office.
VOTER INFORMATION
The Orange County Registrar of Voters will operate more than 180 full-service Vote Centers throughout Orange County for in-person voting and will mail official ballots for the November 5, 2024, Election to registered voter via the U.S. Postal Service on October 7, 2024. Vote Centers in the City of La Habra:
- La Habra Community Center (101 West Euclid Street): Opens October 24
- La Habra City School District Office (500 North Walnut Street): Opens November 2
- La Habra United Methodist Church (631 North Euclid Street): Opens November 2
Voters can return their mail-in-ballots by:
- Placing the completed ballot in the mail (no postage required); or
- Placing the completed ballot in a ballot drop box located throughout Orange County; or
- Bringing the completed ballot to a Vote Center by 8:00 p.m. on November 5.
