Animal Control
Our animal control officers provide field services for the City of La Habra, 7 days a week, during day time hours. However, 24 hour service is available for emergencies, such as stray injured animals or aggressive animals running at large that have caused or attempted to cause injury.
In addition to responding to calls for service regarding strays, animal bites, dog licensing issues, barking complaints, and leash law violations, our animal control officers play a lead role in the enforcement of anti-cruelty regulations, investigating reports of abuse, neglect, or abandonment. They also facilitate getting veterinary care for injured animals and every effort is made to promptly reunite lost pets with their owners. In fact, it is our policy to check all domesticated animals for a license and/or an identifying implanted chip, prior to them being taken to the shelter.
Animal sheltering services for La Habra are provided through a contract with Inland Valley Humane Society.
Animal Licensing
California state law requires all dogs, four months of age or older, to be vaccinated against the rabies virus and licensed within the jurisdiction where the dog resides.
Discounts are provided for altered animals, as well as for pet owners who are senior citizens, (62 years of age or older). To receive a discount for an altered pet, proof of sterility, (a spay or neuter certificate), must be provided. To receive a senior citizen discount, a photocopy of a valid current government issued photo identification card, (i.e. California Driver's License), showing proof of age and current address information is required.
The license application should be filled out completely and a copy of your pet's current rabies vaccination certificate must accompany it. The completed application and payment, as well as all accompanying paperwork that may be required, can be accepted at the front counter of the police department, (150 N. Euclid St.) by the cashier at city hall, (201 E. La Habra Boulevard), during regular business hours or may be mailed to: La Habra Police Department - Animal Control, 150 N. Euclid St., La Habra, CA 90631.
