Business Regulations

Property Maintenance

Every owner of real property within the City, whether commercial, industrial or residential, is required to maintain such property in a manner so as not to be a blight to the community. A few examples of property maintenance requirements are as follows:

Landscaping is an important element of any business and has the potential to positively or negatively impact property values and the image of the community. All businesses are required to provide landscaping and a continuing program of maintenance. Drought tolerant landscaping schemes are encouraged as well as water conservation maintenance methods.Landscaped areas must be maintained as not to encroach into the public right-of-way or create an eye sore along with the elimination of barren areas, dead vegetation, or weeds.

Discarded Trash & Debris

All discards, trash, debris, and junk accumulations must be promptly removed from the property. Such items are not only unsightly, but they also attract rodents and become a fire hazard. Broken, unusable or abandoned items, appliances and furniture are considered discards. The monitoring of the property at a minimum of once a day will very likely address this situation.

Driveways and Walkways

Driveways or walkways must be maintained in such a condition so as to not be injurious or potentially injurious to the public health, safety or general welfare.

Business conducted within an enclosed building

Stores, shops or businesses, except automobile service stations, newsstands, and outdoor garden centers, must conduct business entirely within an enclosed building.

Business License

All businesses in the City must first procure a license from the City to conduct such business. This license can be obtained from the Business License Department. Please contact Elizabeth Feliciano at 562-383-4066 for more information.

Gambling Prohibited

No person or persons shall pay, participate in, conduct, allow to be conducted, played or participated in, or bet on, either for hire or otherwise, any game, games, devises or contrivances used as a means or method or gambling or securing anything of value in any way by chance within the City.
