Parkway Tree Program

About the Program

The City of La Habra's Parkway Tree Program provides tree planting and trimming services to La Habra residents. Only trees that meet the City's urban forest requirements are able to become parkway trees. For example, palm trees do not meet these requirements and are not allowed to be planted in the City parkways.

Newly Planted Trees

Once trees are planted, they are watered for 3 months by the City's tree contractor, West Coast Arborists. After 3 months, residents are expected to water the trees.

Tree Districts

There are 37 tree districts within La Habra, and each district's parkway trees are generally trimmed every 4 years. The trimming is done primarily for safety purposes to protect vehicular and foot traffic.

Parks Division does take service requests for certain types of trees, such as the Chinese Elm tree.

Trimming or Removing Parkway Trees

Residents may only trim or remove their parkway tree with:

  1. Authorization by the La Habra Parks Division
  2. Proof of $1,000,000 liability insurance from the trimming company

Residents who, without authorization, remove or trim a tree may receive a fine or be required to replace the tree.
