[ARCHIVED] Red Ribbon Week & Breakfast

The City of La Habra will join other communities across the nation to celebrate Red Ribbon Week, October 23rd-27th, a week-long event which provides education about drug abuse and offers alternative activities for youth.  This year's theme is "Your Future Is Key. So Stay Drug Free."  Two highlights of the event are a poster decorating contest, open to youth in grades kindergarten through first grade, and an essay contest, open to youth in grades six through twelve.  Local school districts include the contests in their classrooms and submit the students' artwork and essays directly to the Community Center for judging.  The final highlight of the week is the Red Ribbon Breakfast, which this year features La Habra Police Department Seargent Dan Barnes speaking about his work around the globe during natural disasters, including Hurricane Katrina and the Indian Ocean tsunami.  The breakfast will be held at the Community Center, 101 W. La Habra Blvd., Thursday, October 26th, 6:30-8:00 a.m.  Winning artwork will be on display, and winning artists and writers may attend the breakfast at no cost.  Otherwise, the cost to attend is $18 for adults and $15 for students.  Reservations are required; no tickets will be sold at the door.  Payment can be made by visiting the Community Center or by calling 562-383-4200.  For more information, please contact Melissa Rivera at 562-383-4209 or
