Explore school, home, theater, and a farm, all set against a beautiful backdrop of traditional Chinese paintings. Try out some of their everyday activities: write in Chinese, cook with grandmother, plant rice, and perform in a traditional Chinese opera! Hangzhou combines the best of old and new, rustic countryside and modern urban center. The Children of Hangzhou: Connecting with China exhibit presents China from the viewpoint of four young people. This exhibit was created by The Boston Children’s Museum and is part of the Freeman Foundation Asian Culture Exhibit Series, funded by The Freeman Foundation and administered by Association of Children’s Museums.

Feb 11: 1-5pm Celebrate the Year of the Dog Welcome the Year of the Dog and experience Chinese culture and tradition first-hand. Play a traditional game, make a Chinese lantern, join in our lion dance, and add your New Year’s wish to our wishing tree to make 2018 a lucky year. A limited number of FREE admissions are given for Museum entrance TODAY ONLY for 1:00 p.m. & 3:15 p.m time slots on the day of the event and are subject to availability.
March 24: 11am-2:30pm Lantern Festival Traditions Celebrate the spring festival that marks the last day of the Chinese New Year. Visitors will enjoy watercolor painting on paper lanterns, traditional dance performances and tea & dumpling demonstrations and tastings! Included with Museum admission.
April 21: 11am-2:30pm The Art of Paper We’ll celebrate the remarkable invention of paper by the Chinese with demonstrations and hands-on art stations featuring Chinese Paper Folding, intricate Paper Cutting and beautiful Calligraphy! Included with Museum admission.
May 19: 11am-2:30pm Music and Opera Experience and learn about the centuries old tradition of Music & Chinese Opera. Activities will include a traditional music performance, martial arts demonstration, opera mask face painting, and Chinese drum making. Included with Museum admission.
