Angkor: The Lost Empire of Cambodia & "Angkor" 3D Imax at the California Science Center
Friday, June 10, 2022
A civilization that rose to become the envy of the world, only to disappear…one of the greatest mysteries of all time which has mystified archaeologists, scientists and explorers. Welcome to the California Science Center and the world premiere of the international touring exhibition Angkor: The Lost Empire of Cambodia. Combining science, archeology and intrepid exploration, this exhibition focuses on the mystery of a lost empire! Go back in time 900 years to when as many as one million people lived in the city of Angkor – a city that sprawled across an area larger than New York City. After thriving for six centuries, and after an epic spree of religious building whose scale and ambition rivals the pyramids of Egypt, Angkor is the scene of one of the greatest vanishing acts of all time. While 1300 carved inscriptions survive on temple doorjambs, the Khmer people of Angkor left not a single word explaining their kingdom’s collapse. This special exhibition provides a glimpse at what daily life was like through 120 ancient artifacts on display – half of which have never been shown outside of Cambodia. After exploring the exhibit we’ll watch Angkor 3D, bringing this remarkable civilization to life on the seven-story IMAX screen. This visually stunning film is an epic adventure where science, mystery and ancient civilization intersect. Enjoy approximately five hours at the Science Center to explore the Angkor exhibit, watch the IMAX film, browse the Science Center’s permanent exhibits (including the Space Shuttle Endeavour) and enjoy an included boxed lunch. This tour involves moderate walking. Price includes tour director and driver gratuity. Departs from La Bonita Park parking lot.
