David Crabtree, AICP, began his Interim Director assignment with La Habra in July 2021 after recently completing a similar assignment for the City of Buena Park. David’s 35 year career in municipal government included 30 years with the City of Brea, CA where he retired as its Community Development Director in 2019. David began his work in Development and Planning in 1985 with the City of Phoenix, AZ. After relocating to California he worked for the City of Pomona prior to joining the City of Brea team in 1989, eventually serving as Brea’s Community Development Director. As a journey-level Planner he performed key land use analysis, development review and report preparation and recommendations to the Planning Commission and City Council. David was privileged to be part of the staff leadership that worked thru the redevelopment of Brea’s downtown during the 1990s and its emphasis on economic development, attracting and retaining business in Brea, and finding workforce housing solutions for the community. He was also involved with the City’s critical look at balancing growth in its hillside areas and creating new mixed use opportunities as part of Brea’s comprehensive update to its General Plan. David holds a Bachelors Degree in Geography from Arizona State University with an emphasis in land use and urban studies with post graduate studies at UCLA, CalPoly Pomona, and CSUF. David was born and raised in Chicago which he credits as key to his love of cities and good hot dogs.
