Street Sweeping Enforcement

About the Program

On January 3, 2005, the City Council approved a citywide street sweeping parking enforcement program for residential areas. The intent of the program is to clean the streets of La Habra more efficiently, while keeping the City compliant with provisions of the Federal Clean Water Act. Debris must be removed, not only for community aesthetics, but also to aid in the City’s compliance with the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) requirements. These requirements regulate water pollution, especially pollution that enters the ocean through storm drains.

Parking Tickets

Vehicles that are parked along the curb disrupt the street sweeper’s ability to clean the streets, often in an area greater in length than the car itself. These parked vehicles do not allow the sweeper to adequate clean the debris that is in the gutter.

In July 2005, street sweeping enforcement signs were placed throughout the City. In September 2005, Central Parking System, Inc. began issuing parking tickets to vehicles blocking the path of the sweeper.

Enforcement Tips

  • Parking enforcement of the street sweeping regulation will not occur for vehicles that are parked after the street sweeper has passed.
  • An overnight parking permit does not exempt you from the street sweeping or other parking regulations.
  • A citation will be issued for each occurrence.
  • Remember to notify your guests about parking restrictions.
